An Ohio native, Robert’s career began after college as a drug and alcohol community outreach specialist. Following seminary school, he held pastoral care roles before being recruited by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons and receiving a direct commission into the U.S. Navy as Navy Reserves chaplain. “Ultimately, I became responsible for recruiting, training, and staffing chaplains at various prisons, penitentiaries, medical centers and correctional institutions throughout the mid-Atlantic Region as a regional chaplaincy administrator,” he outlined. “As I was serving behind the walls of prisons throughout the country, I would minister to literally thousands of men and women from all races, ethnicities, cultures, social and economic backgrounds doing time in our federal prison system.
